More details have emerged about a new city centre micropub including plans to build a rooftop conservatory.
Most of a five-storey grade II-listed building in Broad Street in Worcester will be converted into a new micropub under proposals by Anchor Real Estate and more detail has now been revealed including plans for a private bar and fifth-floor conservatory.
The planning application by the Hampshire-based developer to convert the building opposite the Wetherspoon-owned Crown into a new micropub was backed in principle by planners at Worcester City Council in June.
The latest application adds more detail to the proposal and shows how the former phone shop would be converted into a pub emulating another Anchor pub called the Cocky Anchor in Hampshire market town Romsey.
The upper floors of the building would also be turned into a lounge, conference room and private bar for functions as well as a manager’s flat and staff kitchen.
A new conservatory and decking would also be built on the top floor “offering a unique experience with views across a wide area of the city centre that has been out of reach for the general public for several decades.”
A statement included with the new application said: “Whatever the use of the building, most of the physical changes as outlined will be necessary to allow the use of the upper two levels and the basement, which would otherwise have to be excluded from physical access and remain as if it were a museum. Not a financial reality.
“The proposal for a micropub will give initial investment to the building from which with enough growth generate additional capital to maintain the building to a high standard and eventually assist in character to more of the utilitarian spaces.”
The proposed opening hours are expected to be 11am to 11pm every day and the new pub would bring four jobs.
The building was formerly known as Cupola House and dates to 1740, and from around 1831 was the home of naturalist and printer Edwin Lees.
