Five people in the county died from coronavirus in a week according to the latest figures.

Three people in Worcestershire died in hospital and two people died in a care home, the Office for National Statistics (ONS) said.

Two people from Wychavon and one person from Wyre Forest died in hospital where Covid-19 was mentioned on the death certificate with one person from Bromsgrove and another person from Malvern Hills dying in care homes.

The five deaths in the week up to October 22 means a total of 1,439 people have so far died from Covid-19 in ‘all settings’ in Worcestershire.

Nobody died at home, in a hospice, communal establishment or other setting in the week according to the ONS figures.

The latest Public Health England figures show the number of new infections in Worcestershire fell by almost a fifth in the last week.

A total of 2,772 new Covid-19 cases were recorded in Worcestershire in the week up to October 27 – a fall of just under 19 per cent compared to the week before.

New cases increased slightly in Worcester to 447 – a rise of two per cent compared to the week before – and five per cent in Malvern Hills where a total of 333 new cases were recorded.

In Wychavon, which includes Evesham, Pershore and Droitwich, a total of 598 cases were recorded in a week falling by 22 per cent when compared to the previous week but remaining the highest number recorded among the county’s six districts.

An almost 30 per cent drop in cases in a week in Bromsgrove saw a total of 488 new cases recorded.

New infections fell by 25 per cent in Redditch to 413 in the week up to October 27 according to Public Health England.

Wyre Forest saw a decline in new cases in the week falling by almost 25 per cent to 493.

NHS figures show 50 people were in hospital in Worcestershire with Covid-19 on October 26 – the latest day available – including two people in intensive care.

Around 78 per cent of those aged 12 and above in Worcestershire have now been vaccinated against coronavirus having received both jabs.
