Wye Valley NHS Trust has thanked the dozens of qualified and student nurses who turned up to find out more about working at the Trust at its open day on Friday last week.

Around 60 people attended the open day at Hereford County Hospital to find out what it’s like working there, to meet staff and to have a tour of the site.

“It was very exciting and there was a great buzz in the room,” said Sue Smith, the Trust’s HR and OD manager.

“We were bowled over at the quality of those who attended and I’m delighted to say that we were able to interview a number of the candidates and offer them jobs on the day.

“This is great news not just for the Trust, but more importantly for the people of Herefordshire. The national shortage of nurses has been well documented in the media so to be able to recruit a group of qualified and skilled nurses to the Trust like this in one day will make a huge difference,” added Sue.

The open day was the first of a series the Trust is organising this year. Those who are interested in attending future open days should keep an eye on the Trust’s website – www.wyevalley.nhs.uk – where they can register their interest to receive an email when the date of the next open day is set.

“I’d also like to thank colleagues who made the day such a success. It was a great team effort and we had representatives from a number of wards and departments on hand as well as colleagues from our education and training team to help the candidates understand how the Trust supports the professional development of its staff.”

Many of those attending were drawn to the open day as the Trust can offer both acute and community nursing posts.

“As one of a small number of Trust’s in the country that provides acute and community healthcare, Wye Valley NHS Trust is able to offer a variety of opportunities and progression for qualified nurses,” said Helen Byard, deputy director of nursing, who welcomed delegates to the open day.

“We can offer a flexible work-life balance around families and can offer work as a nurse in both the acute hospital setting and in the community,” she added.

More details about future open days will be posted on the Trust’s website under the “work with us” tab which includes information about what the Trust can offer and stories from staff already working at the Trust.
