Work is underway to repair the tennis courts on Bishop’s Meadow in Hereford.
The council-owned courts were damaged during the floods earlier this year.
The site is run by Halo Leisure and there are four hard-surfaced tennis courts which comply with the Lawn Tennis Association standard, along with the six grass tennis courts.
But the site has been closed for months.
Now local tennis players, such as Teresa Godbert, are hoping the courts will open for people to play over the summer.
“After the flooding the courts down there are really unplayable,” she said.
“The thing is with the swimming pool being shut with the flooding, there aren’t that many facilities in Hereford.
“Because it’s open air, tennis a permissible sport like golf.
“The council said they would reopen it in July. If it could be done in time for the school holidays that would be good.
“These courts are right in the centre of Hereford and they are places were visitors would go and play.
“They are places where kids in the local houses who wouldn’t usually play tennis can go and have a go.”
A Herefordshire Council spokesperson said they are working with partners to reopen the site.
“We are progressing the repair works to damage caused by the significant flooding in February.
“Once all the damage has been assessed and corrected we will work with our partners to open as soon as practicably possible.”
