Witness appeal following a robbery in Malvern

West Mercia Police is investigating following a quantity of money stolen from an ATM on Buttercup Walk in Malvern.

Police were called at around 00.20am on Tuesday 4 September to reports of four offenders who appeared to be attempting to remove cash from the ATM located at the Sainsbury's local supermarket.

It is believed that the offenders have travelled to and from the offence in a stolen black Audi S4 estate. A member of the public and a police officer sustained minor injuries during the incident. Neither required hospital treatment. The four offenders left the scene.

The offenders are believed to have placed stolen number plates on the stolen car shortly before the robbery, which was later found abandoned in the area.

The number plates are believed to have been stolen from a vehicle in Strencham Road, Naunton, Gloucestershire and a vehicle in Tewkesbury Road in Upton-upon-Severn.

Investigators are asking to speak to anyone who may have witnessed the incident, as well as members of the public who may have seen individuals acting suspiciously in the areas that the number plates are believed to have been stolen.

They would also like to speak with anyone who may have seen a Black Audi S4 estate in the area.

Detective Inspector Tony Garner said: "We are urging anyone who may have seen people acting suspiciously around the ATM in Buttercup Walk in the early hours of Tuesday 4 September and the site where the Black Audi S4 estate was abandoned on Michael Crescent in Malvern.

"We are also particularly interested to hear from anyone who may have seen anyone acting suspiciously around vehicles in Strencham Road, Gloucester and Tewkesbury Road, Upton-upon-Severn, during the evening of Monday 3 September as they may hold crucial information surrounding the removal of number plates from cars on those roads that may have been used in the offence."

He continued: "One of our officers was injured whilst responding to this incident, which is clearly unacceptable and is take very seriously by the force. I would like to recognise the bravery of the police officer trying to tackle these offenders. I want to reassure local residents that a thorough investigation is being carried out and that there will continue to be a visible police presence in the area over the coming days."
