Westfields made their first ever visit to Mangotsfield for an Hellenic League Premier Division game and recorded a 5-1 away win on Saturday to add to their 2-0 victory over Brimscombe & Thrupp on midweek to give them back-to-back wins and hoist them up into 3rd position in the Hellenic League Premier Division table.

Westfields gave a determined display from start to finish and took their chances which came their way and scored 5 goals for the first time this season.

Westfields got off to a dream start when Adam Wakley blasted home a 4th minute goal from the edge of the penalty area to give early warning to the Bristol side and Westfields were certainly in attacking form for the afternoon.

Wakley’s goal was soon followed by a Jack Gittoes goal when he got on the end of a far post cross by Dan Stoneman to put Westfields 2-0 ahead.

Mangotsfield did come back into the game and Ian Havard twice dived full length to prevent the home side pulling a goal back but just before the interval last season’s leading goal-scorer Josh Hunt was on hand to score with a header after a ball had come back off the Mangotsfield post.

With Westfields sitting pretty at 3-0 at the interval the home side came out really well in the start of the second half and pulled a goal back immediately to make it 3-1 but Westfields pressed and went back and restored their 3 goal advantage when dangerman Dan Stoneman got on the end of a beautiful pass from Josh Hunt to put Westfields 4-1 ahead and then Westfields began to dictate play even more and introduced youngsters Harry Pitman, Zac Bruton and Ryan Hiller off the bench and all 3 gave good performances.

Westfields secured their 5th goal when Archie Muirhead went through and cracked home a fine left-foot shot to give Westfields a 5-1 victory.

Westfields now meet Long Crendon in the Wiseman Floodlit Cup on Tuesday and then on Saturday, 15th October, Westfields visit Thornbury Town away, kick-off 3pm, in an Hellenic League Premier Division game.

The following Wednesday Westfields are at home to Longlevens which kicks-off at allpay.park on 19th October at 7.45pm.
