Gwent Police are warning residents to keep a closer eye on their property and report any suspicious activity immediately after a spike in reported burglaries throughout Monmouthshire.

As the better weather approaches, officers are urging residents not to become complacent by leaving any windows and doors open.

The below crimes were reported to us on 17th April 2018:

A property in Skenfrith was burgled where offenders forced open a door, made an untidy search and stole a watch.

A caravan in Grosmont was also broken, where a door was forced open and approximately £150 in cash and a money pot containing around £130 in change was taken.

During the offence an iPad, a red jacket, a ‘Giant’ mountain bike along with a quantity of jewellery was also stolen from inside, including Pandora bracelets with charms and earrings.

A further two properties were also broken into in Llangattock Lingoed and on Monmouth Road in Abergavenny where again doors were forced but at this time it is unknown what was taken.

A home in Llanfair Kilgeddin was also targeted where a rear door was attempted to be forced open but luckily, no entry was gained.

Local Police Sergeant Stephen James says: "We are currently investigating each reported crime and asking residents to secure their property. Extra patrols have now been put in place by officers but I also want remind residents to double check their security and please report any suspicious activity immediately by calling Gwent Police on 101 or if you see a crime taking place, call 999.”
