Village hall hope lives on says AM

Assembly Member for Monmouth, Nick Ramsay, has said he still holds out hope that the village of Raglan will one day get its own village hall.

Mr Ramsay made his comments following Monmouthshire County Council’s decision to make Raglan’s derelict old junior school building the second Welsh medium school in the north of the county.

The old junior school site had previously been offered to Raglan’s Village Hall Association as the site for a new community hub but the offer was subsequently withdrawn when a time limit for developing the project elapsed.

Speaking today, Mr Ramsay said: “The campaign for a new village hall in Raglan has been ongoing for a number of years and many people have put a considerable amount of time and energy into the project.

“They are understandably disappointed that the latest plans appear to have faltered with the re-designation of the old junior school site.

“I hope this long-standing issue can be resolved and I’m calling on the local authority to continue to work with the Raglan Village Hall Association to develop a viable plan for a new community hub in the village.”
