A Herefordshire village has installed traffic calming measures thanks to funding from the police and crime commissioner and a local quarry.
Highways workers have placed white gates on the verges at the entrance of Aymestrey and changed the road markings.
This was made possible thanks to £2,736 allocated by police and Crime Commissioner John Campion and help from quarry operator Breedon Group.
Residents hope that these measures will help reduce the speeds of motorists who until now have been ignoring the 30 mph speed restrictions on that section of the A4110.
Mr Campion said: “When the residents of Aymestrey first raised these concerns with me I was keen to help because they were so passionate about creating a safer community.
“Speeding in rural areas is a real problem in West Mercia, so I admire it when people come together to find a solution.
“I hope these measures go some way to reducing the number of people speeding through the village and residents can feel safer.”
Parish council chairman Ian Goddard and county councillor Carole Gandy thanked the police and crime commissioner and the Breedon Group for their funding towards a project which Aymestrey Parish Council sees as the implementation of important safety measures for the village.
