Swimmers will be taking the plunge in the River Wye in an annual fundraising event organised by Monmouth School Sports Club.
The fifth Great Wye Swim is being held in Monmouth on Sunday 13th May and organisers are hoping for a repeat of last year’s bumper turnout.
Swimmers will register from 10.30am before setting off at noon to tackle a short 1km downstream course or a more challenging long 2km course, which includes 500m upstream.
Last summer, Michael Lewis won the 2km male wetsuit section in an impressive time of 17 minutes and 45 seconds as a record number of swimmers took part.
Kara Williams won the women’s equivalent category 12 months ago in a time of 20 minutes and 34 seconds.
Last year’s swim raised £1,370, which was be split between Mesothelioma UK and St David’s Hospice Care.
The Great Wye Swim was the brainchild of Teresa Tranter, an administration officer at Monmouth School Sports Club.
All swimmers must be 16 years old or above and the event is raising money for Forest of Dean Venture Scouts.
The closing date for entries is 4pm on Saturday 12th May.
The cost is £12 to enter the short course race or £17 for the long course event.
