Herefordshire Council's Southern Link Road Compulsory Purchase Order is due to be considered by a public inquiry later this month.

The secretary of state for transport called the inquiry, which will begin at 10am on October 30, 2018, at the Left Bank in Hereford, and is expected to last up to seven days.

Compulsory Purchase powers are being sought to support the construction of the Southern Link Road as part of the South Wye Transport Package which was given Planning Permission in July 2016.

Cllr Philip Price, cabinet member infrastructure, said: "Herefordshire Council can confirm that the public inquiry into the Southern Link Road Compulsory Purchase Order will take place later this month.

"The Southern Link Road marks the first phase of the Hereford Bypass, which will improve connectivity to the rest of the UK, promote business growth, open opportunities to develop new housing, reduce journey times and help to tackle traffic congestion. The accompanying active travel measures will also provide safer and more numerous walking and cycling options, which will promote the health and wellbeing of local people.

"The Southern Link Road is a key piece of infrastructure and we are confident that we are in a position to present the strongest possible case. We look forward to starting works on site early next year."
