A member of staff at Ashfield Park Primary School in Ross-on-Wye has tested positive for coronavirus.
Headteacher Steven Kendrick said in a public statement that the staff member works in Reception class.
He has called on parents who have a child in Reception not to bring them into school for the rest of this half term.
“We are continuing to monitor the situation and are working closely with Public Health England / Herefordshire Public Health,” he said.
“This letter is to inform you of the current situation and provide advice on how to support your child. Please be reassured that for most people, coronavirus (Covid-19) will be a mild illness.
“Therefore, we are asking not to bring your Reception child into school for the rest of this half term. I will advise you when you will be able to return to school today after speaking to the Outbreak Team in Hereford.
“I will of course contact you throughout the day to keep you informed of current developments after I have spoken to the Outbreak Team in Hereford.
“I would appreciate it if you can inform any Reception parents you know and direct them to read the information above.”
If someone’s child develops symptoms of Covid-19, they should remain at home for at least 10 days from the day after their symptoms appeared.
Anyone with symptoms will be eligible for testing and this can be arranged via https://www.nhs.uk/ask-for-a-coronavirus-test or by calling 119.
All other household members who remain well must stay at home and not leave the house for 14 days.
