Scam warning to Monmouthshire petrol stations

Police are advising petrol stations and retail outlets to be vigilant after a petrol station in Monmouthshire had approximately £10,000 worth of cigarettes stolen.

The petrol station received a call yesterday, Thursday 8th April, from a person pretending to be from its Head Office.  They stated that they would be attending the store to the collect all their cigarettes, which were being recalled.

A man later attended the petrol station in the Chepstow area to complete the action.

Please ensure that the identity of anyone contacting you to complete any transaction is always checked and verified to ensure it is genuine.  

A 31 year old man from Newport has been arrested on suspicion of fraud by false representation and has since been released under investigation.
