Did you know that 60% of Hereford & Worcester Fire and Rescue Service’s (HWFRS) frontline firefighters are on-call?

Ross-on-Wye is one of many on-call fire stations within Herefordshire! This means that all the firefighters for the station respond to 999 emergency calls from their place of work or from their home. Without this team of people your local fire service couldn’t operate.

An exciting opportunity has arisen for talented individuals to join Ross-on-Wye Fire Station as on-call firefighters. If you are looking for a challenge, you are reasonably fit, and can safely reach the fire station within five minutes of receiving the call then please contact us to find out more information about how you can help your local community and top up your income by £4,000 - £8,000 per year!

HWFRS currently employ men and women from a variety of lines of work such as trades-people, factory workers, office staff, stay-at-home parents, company directors and self-employed people who respond to various types of emergencies including: road traffic collisions, flooding, fires, chemical incidents and animal or water rescues to name but a few! Firefighters also actively improve the local community by providing local safety advice and carrying out various safety visits.

Interested? If you are interested you don’t need to have any previous experience as a firefighter; HWFRS will provide full comprehensive initial training with ongoing development throughout your career – all of which you will be paid for! There are varying periods of on-call hours available and on average our on-call firefighters are ‘actively working’ (attending incidents) for around 5 - 10 hours per week.
