A county housing association wants to knock down five bungalows in Hereford and replace them with 11 affordable homes.

Connexus, formerly Herefordshire Housing, has submitted plans to demolish the Eign Mill Road properties to Herefordshire Council.

Architects working on the scheme say the bungalows were originally designed as a ‘stop-gap’ as part of the temporary housing programme following the Second World War.

The design report says: “The properties are well beyond their design life (approaching 70 years old), beyond economical repair and are at the end their viable life.

“They are unsuitable to modern needs, in particular, users who require a wheelchair.”

But Resident Phillip Lord has objected to the proposals which he believes will reduce the number of parking spaces on the street.

He said: “Foley Trading Estate is only accessible via Eign Mill Road and the increase in traffic to Eign Mill Road residents is not acceptable.

“Currently there is free parking on Eign Mill Road, an increase in the number of houses will also increase the number of people who will park on the road when visiting the occupants of the new builds.”

Residents have until November 21 to comment on the proposals and council planners are expected to consider the scheme by December 13.
