There are plans for an ‘outstandingly and innovatively’ designed house to be built in the countryside near Bromyard.

Philip and Jackie Perry want to develop the land north of Sheepcotts Court in Ullingswick.

The proposed home, to be called Flow House, would occupy the sloping site and have extensive views to the south.

The rear of the house would be underground, and the main living area is proposed on the first floor with the bedrooms below.

Consultants working on the scheme say the house would be built into the bank with the parking area and main access into the home would be at first floor level and the ground floor can be kept entirely private.

“The building has a flat roof ed design which minimises the building’s impact, particularly as most views of the building are from a lower level whereby one is usually looking up to the building.

“It also emphasises the horizontal form of the landscape and ensures that the building doesn’t extend beyond the tops of trees to the rear so as not to be seen against the skyline or from the other side of the woodland trees to the north.

“The first floor is set back from the ground floor to create an outdoor space from which the views can be appreciated.”

However, some local people are opposing the plans.

Nine residents have objected to the proposals along with Ocle Pychard group parish council.

The parish council says the site lies outside the neighbourhood development plan’s settlement boundary.

Alastair Telford, one objector, also said the plans were in conflict with the neighbourhood plan.

“It would be wrong of me to ask for it to be approved,” he said.

“However, the design is very imaginative and, as an architect, it is very encouraging for me to see a modern innovative application.

“It is just unfortunate that it cannot be supported.”

Herefordshire Council has set a target to consider the plans by October 9.
