Hereford anglers want permission to build 28 fishing platforms on the banks of the Wye.

Hereford and District Angling Association has submitted the proposals which would involve installing new timber frames on the riverbank in Belmont.

They say no trees would be removed as part of the work and it would require minimal vegetation management.

However, ecology officers have objected to the scheme because it would directly impact on the River Wye which is a special area of conservation and a site of special scientific interest.

They say the application needs a fully detailed habitat regulations assessment and a formal ‘no objection’ from Natural England before plans are approved.

Residents have until June 10 to comment on the proposals.

The council is expected to determine the scheme by June 22.
