County planners will consider a scheme to build 16 homes in Ross-on-Wye next week.

Applicant Emma Wordsworth wants to develop a former 1.5-acre paddock off Merrivale Lane.

A total of 20 residents have objected to the plans but Ross on Wye town council says it has no objections providing the proposed conditions are met.

Objectors have previously said developing the site would compound ‘diabolical’ parking problems on a ‘dangerous’ residential town street.

They also fear the development would mean a loss of open space and would hurt the environment.

However, town councillors say the site is allocated for housing within the neighbourhood development plan subject to retaining the hedgerows, conducting an archaeological study and the access to be from Merrivale Lane.

Herefordshire Council’s planning officers have recommended approving the scheme.

The planning committee will debate the scheme at a 10.30am meeting on October 13.
