Hereford's new University - NMite - will welcome its first degree students to the city from today.

Around 30 undergraduate students will begin their integrated engineering degree with more students set to begin studying from January next year.

The New Model Institute for Technology and Engineering says its long term ambition is to educate more than 5,000 engineering students in Hereford.

A statement from NMITE said: "After years of dreaming, planning, building and finding the right academics, NMITE (New Model Institute for Technology and Engineering) is about to open its doors to a pioneer cohort and deliver its different model of engineering higher education developing work-ready, talented engineers.

"This group of change-makers who have chosen to study NMITE’s innovative Integrated Engineering Undergraduate Masters’ Degree (MEng), won’t be studying engineering, instead they will be learning how to become engineers as NMITE’s curriculum brings together the engineering disciplines and integrates the liberal arts and interpersonal skills needed by today’s employers to tackle the world’s problems."
