High Town Murder: Police name murder victim

A man assaulted at midday yesterday on Hereford's Commercial Street has died in hospital.

The murder investigation continues today and police have confirmed that they do not believe there is any wider threat to the public. The area around Commercial Street where the incident took place is still partly closed while police investigate the scene.

Superintendent Sue Thomas, local policing lead for Herefordshire, said: "We can now confirm that the man who died yesterday, after an attack that took place on Hereford's Commercial Street, is 33-year-old Robert Eacock from Hereford. Our thoughts are with his family and friends at this extremely difficult time"

"These are tragic circumstances and my thoughts are with the family and friends of the man at this time. I would strongly urge anyone with information to contact police."

"My thanks to the public and local businesses for their patience during the disruption in the city. We're working to remove the scene guards as soon as possible."

The four people arrested yesterday have been released, and one further man has been arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender.
