Herefordshire residents, who have already taken part in the world's longest relay ever attempted, are urging others to get involved - by being active in whatever way they like for 27 minutes on Saturday 5th November.

The Running Out of Time Relay unites thousands of members of the public who are running, cycling and sailing 7,767km/4,826 miles, day and night to deliver a climate action message from young people to world leaders when they gather at COP27 in Egypt. The relay started on September 30th in Glasgow and is travelling through 18 countries before arriving at Sharm el-Sheikh on November 6th for the start of the next UN summit about climate change. It passed through Herefordshire on Wednesday 5th October.

James Hay, Mary Paske, Andy Dodwell and Mark Johnson ran 11km through driving rain and wind from Hereford to the village of Madley to pass the baton onto the next runner, Frank Atherton.

They're now urging more Herefordshire residents to support the relay's climate action message by joining in with the 'Running Out of Time - The Global Stage' on Saturday 5th November. At 10.00 am on 5th November (or as close to that date as possible), people are being asked to run, walk, cycle, dance or be active in someway for 27 minutes  - on their own or with friends and family. Then to post those pics & selfies tagged with #RunningOutofTime to showcase unity in the world and that we can work together to combat climate change and call on the world's leaders to do the same. More information and registration is at Running Out of Time – the Global Stage.

People can also add their names to show support for the message and help to demonstrate to governments the strength of feeling there is about tackling climate change right now. The message will be read out at the Ministerial session on climate change and education and is calling on Governments to provide quality education, skills and resources to help people to tackle climate change where they live and to protect their communities from the worst effects of climate change. People can add their names to the message and help to meet the target of 500,000 signatures here.

James Hay, who's one of the organisers of the relay and resident of Hereford, said: "It's so special being able to run in this relay to represent Hereford as I've been working professionally non-stop for the past few months with the rest of my team to get this mammoth event organised. And now it's happening! The response from people has been phenomenal and it's so encouraging to see how much people care about climate change and our future. This relay shows just how much positive good we humans can achieve when we come together and that's the whole point of the relay. After all, we could've just sent the message as an email! But that wouldn't have shown world leaders the strength of feeling there is for taking action now to tackle the climate crisis."
