Herefordshire Council has extended its temporary voucher scheme for free parking to encourage customers to visit local businesses in Hereford.

The scheme is in partnership with the Hereford Business Improvement District (BID) team.

The voucher scheme will be available for a further six months while Herefordshire Council continue to consult widely and review the current on street parking scheme arrangements.

Councillor Barry Durkin, Herefordshire Council’s Cabinet Member for Transport, Roads and Regulatory Services, said: “We have continued to listen to feedback from local business and shoppers and have now agreed to review the on street parking scheme arrangements to ensure that the scheme both serves its transportation objectives and supports the economic vitality of Hereford and its city centre. The council will continue to work with the Hereford BID team to ensure that visitors are encouraged into the city centre. The council will welcome active involvement with the consultation process when it begins.”

The parking vouchers provide three hours free weekend car parking, on Saturdays and Sundays, at the Town Hall car park (access via East Street) and Greyfriars overflow car park (the section under the bridge only).  Also, in the limited waiting bays on Castle Street where they can also be used for two hours free parking (Monday to Saturday). These locations are a short walk from the Independent Quarter on Church Street and the surrounding city area.

Retailers who would like to receive vouchers for customers should contact the Hereford BID team on 01432 376830.
