A cyclist has been left with life threatening injuries following a collision in Hereford.

The collision happened in Bath Street at about 6.20pm and involved a black Dacia Duster, which initially left the scene, and a bicycle.

The cyclist, a 41-year-old woman, suffered multiple injuries and is currently being treated at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Birmingham.

An 81-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of causing serious injury through careless driving.

He was taken into custody but has now been released on police bail pending further inquiries.

Bath Street was closed for some time.

Inspector Darren Godsall said: "This was a very disturbing incident which has led to a woman suffering extremely serious injuries and we are keen to establish exactly what happened.

"If you saw the collision, or saw either of the vehicles before it occurred, please get in touch. We would be particularly interested in any dashcam footage which is available."
