Monmouthshire's residents have been urged to ensure they are registered and eligible to vote in the forthcoming local council elections.

To vote in the election on Thursday, 4th May applications to be included on the electoral roll must be received no later than Thursday, 13th April.

Registering is quick and simple.  Just visit: www.gov.uk./registertovote and complete the online registration process.  Alternatively, apply for the appropriate forms or check your name is on the register by contacting Monmouthshire County Council's Election Office on 01633 644212 or email elections@monmouthshire.gov.uk. Residents who have received a poll card for these elections at their address are already registered and eligible to vote.

There are a number of reasons why it is important to be included on the electoral register.  Elections can be called at short notice and people unregistered will be unable to vote.  Voting ensures people have a say on the issues of the day and being on the electoral register can maintain your credit rating.

Residents can still vote even if they are away by applying for a postal vote by 5pm on Tuesday, 18th April or by a proxy application form, when someone else votes on their behalf (not postal or emergency proxies) by 5pm on Tuesday 25th April.
