Council services continue to be among best in Wales

Monmouthshire County Council is one of the top performing local authorities in Wales and its services continue to perform well according to data published today by Data Unit Wales, part of the Welsh Local Government Association.

The data compares performance of all 22 Welsh councils.

The publication includes data for a range of services and indicates that the performance of many the council provides is among the best in Wales. These include education, recycling and libraries. One example of impressive performance is the council's waste service where Monmouthshire's residents have once again increased the amount they recycle to help the authority meet targets. There are some areas where the council needs to improve performance and it has plans in place to do so.

Commenting on the published data, Council Leader Peter Fox said: "I'm pleased that this data continues to show we are among one of the highest performing authorities in Wales.  Over the past few years we've worked really hard to make the council more efficient.  We've managed reduced budgets without a decline in front-line services for most people and in many service areas performance has actually improved. While there was significant progress made in 2016-17 there are still areas we need to improve and we're focussed on this.

"We will continue to prioritise those services which have the greatest impact on the well-being of our residents and set the organisation on a path that can deliver a sustainable future for services in Monmouthshire."

Councillors will receive the full evaluation of the authority's performance in 2016-17 at a meeting of the county council on 21st September.
