Thanks to vital funding from Children in Need, The Courtyard’s Education department have been able to launch a new project to make their work more inclusive and accessible to all.

The project will include an increased provision of inclusive workshops, relaxed theatre performances and relaxed film screenings.

The team delivered their first inclusive workshop on 1 November which was circus themed to tie in with The Courtyard’s annual Family Festival. Thirteen participants with varying needs took part with their carers and enjoyed a host of activities including drama games, dance, arts and crafts, dressing up and cookie decorating.

To say thank you to Children in Need, staff at The Courtyard held a ‘Bake Off’ challenge on Friday 16 in which a selection of homemade cakes were tasted and judged by its very own Paul Hollywood (Chief Executive, Ian Archer) and Prue Leith (Fundraising Manager, Individual Giving, Melanie Denning). The cakes were then sold in the Café Bar and a fantastic £193.03 was raised for Children in Need.

Courtyard Education Officer & Youth Theatre Leader, Rebecca Cook said “Before we didn’t have the resources to be able to offer this particular strand of work, but thanks to Children In Need, we can cater our workshops for a range of different needs.”

The Courtyard’s next inclusive workshop is Go Wild on Wednesday 20 February. Places are limited and can be booked through Rebecca Cook on 01432 346511 or rebecca.cook@courtyard.org.uk.
