Richard Harris is a builder by trade but he has just become a Champion Cidermaker as well.

His Henhope Cider made from organic cider apples grown in an orchard at his home at Upper Dormington, Hereford outshone 207 other entries from 44  experienced craft producers to win the Overall Champion title at the annual International Cider and Perry Competition at Hereford Cider Museum.

Richard inherited the orchard from his father and sells the crop to Westons, but five years ago started making  a drop of cider for himself,  entering  his Brown’s Apple in the Single Variety  class.  He also gained a third prize in the dry cider category. The judges, in blind tastings decided he was on to a winner  and Richard will  now have to decide  if he wants to share his success with paying customers.

As well as England there were entries from Wales, Germany and America.
