Fast food chain Burger King is expected to open a new 82-seat drive-thru restaurant in Ross-on-Wye next month.

The company is looking for applicants to fill up to 30 jobs at the Ross Spur service station on the A449.

Herefordshire Council granted Euro Garages permission to demolish an existing restaurant and build two drive-thrus with associated parking at the site in 2011.

A Starbucks cafe has since been built on the site, but construction work for the new Burger King has only started recently.

Planning documents say the internal floor area of the restaurant will be 2,734 square feet and the single-storey building is expected to be one of the first of a new generation of drive-thrus.

The site will designate 23 of the parking spaces at the services for customers and there will be two spaces allocated for people with a disability.
“The brief is to bring about the redevelopment of the petrol service station in order to provide good facilities for travellers passing the site, principally from the M50 motorway,” architects working on the scheme said when plans were submitted.

“This includes improving the restaurant and forecourt and rebuilding a new and modern service area and customer facilities.

“The view is taken that the subject site is an important gateway to Ross-on-Wye and the surrounding area, much of it being designated as an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.

“For many motorists leaving the M50 and travelling in a westerly direction it is one of the first sites which come into view.”

Burger King has advertised jobs for site managers, shift leaders and crew members at Ross Spur Services.

A spokesperson for site owners Euro Garages said: “The drive-through should open some time in the New Year.

“We are aiming for it to be ready by the beginning of February and the restaurant will create between 20 to 30 jobs.”
