Hereford Fire Station now has a Blood Bike based at the station, which will help save more lives in Herefordshire.

Although the bike is housed at the fire station, it is run by Severn Freewheelers which is a charity that provides a free courier service at nights and weekends for the NHS in Herefordshire, Gloucestershire, Worcestershire, and North Wiltshire. The charity transports anything that the NHS has a medical requirement to transfer that can be carried on a motorcycle safely.

Severn Freewheelers believe that this is a great step forward, as it will enable the charity to offer the Wye Valley Trust with the same level of support it provides to other NHS trusts.

Chief Fire Officer, Nathan Travis, agrees that it is positive news for Herefordshire and said: "We are pleased to be able to assist Severn Freewheelers in providing them with a secure and permanent base for the Blood Bike.

"The service that they provide to the community of Hereford and the surrounding area is invaluable and will help save even more lives in the area."

The contribution that Severn Freewheelers makes to Herefordshire has already been recognised by the Mayor of Hereford who has announced it as one her charities for 2017.
