The Bishop of Hereford is to lead prayers in a supermarket cafe as part of a week of faith activities and services, led by him in the South Wye area of Hereford.

As well as the visit to Tesco on Belmont Road, Bishop Richard will also be joining in activities at Hereford Academy, where a classroom has been set aside as a chapel for the day.

Faith in action such as this is a key part of Hereford Diocese’s approach to making Christianity accessible and relevant to the whole community.
The Rt Revd Richard Frith said: “I’m delighted to be spending Holy Week with people in South Wye and joining in their Easter journey.

“Church and prayer can happen anytime, anywhere and I hope that by doing this people will see that the Christian faith is not just about services in church buildings,  but about sharing and living out what we believe alongside our friends and neighbours.

“This part of Hereford, served by St Martin’s Church is a hub of Christian outreach and community activities, including providing a weekly meal as part of the hot food network for vulnerable people, and I’m pleased to be spending more time here getting to know everyone involved.”

Other activities planned include, an All Age service on Good Friday, followed by Meditation and an Easter Joy Fun Day on Easter Saturday in and around St Martin’s Church, which will involve a bonfire and bouncy castle.

Priest in Charge of South Wye Team Ministry, which includes St Martin’s Church, Revd Anne Dowdeswell said: "Our Holy Week Mission in South Wye with Bishop Richard is a chance for us to share the wonderful Easter Story with the whole community that we serve.

“St Martin's is part of the important moments - both joyful and sad- in the lives of so many families, and we look forward to welcoming them to experience this important part of the Church year through the sorrow of the crucifixion and the joys of the Easter resurrection. "
