Appeal after attempted robbery in Hereford

Police are appealing for information about an attempted robbery that took place in Hereford on Sunday.

The incident occured when the victim, in her mid-60s, was walking through the Eign Gate/ Whitecross Road underpass at about 6.40pm in the direction of Whitecross Road. As she approached the far end of the subway, near to Whitecross Road, she was approached by  a number of people who had been sitting on a wall on the left hand side.

A struggle ensued when one of them tried to snatch the victim's black and white handbag, which the victim kept hold of. The assailant grabbed at her necklace and the bag fell on the ground. A member of the public responded to the victim's call for help and ran towards the assailant, who ran up the subway ramp towards Whitecross Road. At the top of the subway, the assailant headed towards Greyfriars Bridge.

The assailant is described as female, about 20 years old, white, slim build, 5ft 4 inches, with brown hair in a ponytail. She is described as having a pointed nose, of pale complexion and believed to be east European. She was wearing a light grey zip up hoody, dark denim trousers, and possibly sports trainers with pink  colouring.
