All things apples are being celebrated at the Cider Museum in Hereford this Saturday.

The traditional cider festival takes on a new twist, with something for everyone.  The traditional part of the celebration is there with Morris dancers and apple pressing, and the famous heritage apple display the museum pioneered thirty years’ ago.

This year’s stalls include cider makers Celtic Marches, Pips and Little Pomona, and Tyrrells will also be on hand with new popcorns and crisps. Talks and tastings will be given by both Albert Johnson of Ross Cider (a rising Herefordshire star) and Susanna Forbes who has written a new cider book which has already had great acclaim overseas before it has even been fully launched. Curator Manager Elizabeth Pimblett will be doing a ‘Brief History of Cider Making in Ten Objects’.

There are lots of things to for families to keep the children occupied: felt apple making with Shirley’s Wheels, have-a-go archery with Ledbury Archers, ‘Tales from the Silk Road’ puppet show. For keen apple enthusiasts there will be a fascinating talk by the Marcher Apple Network on recent developments in DNA testing of heritage fruit, and the Traditional Orchards Project will be represented by Gareth Pugh. Core Equipment will have a stand to show their catalogue of processing machinery. Tutored cider tastings will be held where you can find out more about our famous Herefordshire speciality, and hot pork baps will be on offer in the tearoom.

Bring your own apples and bottles if you would like to juice your own fruit using the museum’s press! Open 10.30 – 4.30.
