There are plans to update a Gloucestershire town’s 20mph speed limit zone.

Gloucestershire County Council is proposing changes to the existing traffic order for the 20mph speed limit on various roads in Stonehouse.

The proposal is to make the roads in the two existing 20mph Speed Limit Orders into a new 20mph Zone Traffic Order.

This is to ensure they are in line with current Department for Transport guidance on the signage and enforcement of 20mph zones.

If the changes get the go-ahead, new signs will be put up across the 20mph zone across the town.

Councillor Nick Housden (Independent Conservative, Stonehouse), who represents the town at Shire Hall and Stroud District Council, said many of the roads in the proposal area already feature traffic calming.

“Together with additional repeater signage and road roundels on the roads without traffic calming, the proposal will meet updated DfT 20mph Zone requirements,” he said in a post on Facebook.

“Additionally, the proposal will correct anomalies where a road is signed on-street within a 20mph speed limit, but the street is not listed within the existing traffic order.”

He also said he is working on a separate proposal and scheme for Oldends Lane.
