Conservative councillor Rob Bird has been re-elected as leader of Tewkesbury Borough Council.

Councillor Jim Mason will also continue in the post of deputy leader after councillors gave their backing to both of them at a meeting last night (May 4).

Badgeworth ward councillor Robert Vines proposed councillor Bird for the position.

“Top job, for the top man,” he said.

Councillor Bird thanked the council for their support after a majority of councillors backed his appointment.

“Thank you to all members for your confidence in me at this time and I will do my very best to honour that commitment appropriately,” he said.

Councillor Mason also thanked councillors for backing him.

“Hopefully, I will give the support to the leader that he deserves.”
