Gloucestershire’s biggest oriental food supermarket Yip Shing was given the go-ahead to relocate to Westgate Island – but a deal has fallen through.

The shop, which was formerly run by the Yip brothers, has been going strong for more than a decade.

It was due to be moving from the Morelands Trading Estate in Bristol Road and Gloucester City Council had approved a scheme to vary planning conditions allowing them to open a store in the former Carphone Warehouse unit at Westgate Retail Park.

Sterling House Estates Ltd applied to vary one of the planning conditions for the site to allow food to be consumed off the premises.

This condition was preventing Yip Shing from relocating to the site because they operate a supermarket which sells food.

But the Local Democracy Reporting Service now understands that the move will not go ahead and the deal between the supermarket and the landlord has fallen through.

The variation of planning conditions was granted in May.
