A major expansion of a Forest of Dean business park is set to go ahead after district planners approved it.

Councillors were extremely supportive of the scheme which will see up to 20 new business units built and an existing home demolished on land at Longhope Business Park in Monmouth Road, Longhope.

One of the units will be used as a café while the other 19 are for general industrial use, totalling around 97,951 square feet.

Speaking at today’s planning committee meeting, Councillor Richard Boyles said he thanked whoever was behind the plans for bringing so many opportunities for jobs in the Forest of Dean.

Cllr Julia Gooch proposed approving the scheme and this was seconded by Cllr Ian Whitburn.

Cllr Whitburn said it was a great application and the additional opportunities for employment are absolutely brilliant.

Councillor Simon Phelps said he supported the plans and did suggest it would be a perfect site for the district council to have invested in.

“We should be grateful to the applicant’s for providing a varied site for employment and it’s desperately needed in the district,” he said.

Chairman David Wheeler said it was clearly a very welcome application with jobs coming into the Forest.

“We can only just hope that it comes there and provides the employment.”

The committee unanimously approved the scheme with conditions.
