Controversial plans for dozens of affordable homes in a Gloucestershire town are set to be debated by district councillors tomorrow.
MF Freeman Ltd, Platform Housing Ltd, Stockbridge (Newent) Ltd want permission to build 40 new homes on land on the north west side of Watery Lane in Newent.
The plans include a mix of one-bedroom flats, two bed houses and three bed homes.
The new estate would consist of a mix of 50 per cent affordable rent and 50 per cent shared ownership.
And the developers say there is an acute need for affordable homes in the town with 229 households saying they preferred with a range of different property sizes.
Forest of Dean District Council planning officers recommend approving the scheme subject to conditions including a financial contribution agreement of £446,469.35 for local education, £6,742.40 for libraries and £25,464.60.
“Weighing in favour of the development is that the proposal provides housing on an allocated site in one of the four market towns,” the council report reads.
“The lack of a five-year supply of deliverable housing is also a material consideration which adds to the importance of granting permission on sites which are allocated for development.”
However, 31 local residents have written to the council about the proposals.
These comments include concerns over flooding and a lack of employment in the town and others called for funding to be allocated for a skate park.
The plans will be debated by the planning committee at 2pm on Tuesday July 13.
