There are plans to upgrade a telecommunications mast to provide 5G in the Forest of Dean.

Cellnex wants to upgrade the broadcast transmitting station in Tidenham Chase near Chepstow.

The Spanish wireless telecommunications infrastructure and services company, which has up to 53,000 sites throughout Europe, has submitted their plans to the Forest of Dean District Council.

These include the installation of a GPS module, two 5G antennas and two 12-port antennas.

And the scheme also includes the removal of two six-port antennas and will use the existing cable management.

The Forest of Dean has struggled with patchy mobile coverage and councillors have in the past called for roaming rights to be applied to the area to correct the issue.

The council is expected to consider the proposals for Tidenham Chase by August 30, 2022.
