Herefordshire drivers will shortly face fines for parking at peak times outside many county schools and other public buildings.
Herefordshire Council says it plans to replace current “advisory” yellow zigzag markings with “no stopping on entrance” markings, enforceable between 8 and 9.30am and between 2:30 and 4:30pm Mondays to Fridays.
“The aim is to make school keep-clear restrictions legally enforceable through Traffic Regulation Orders,” a Herefordshire Council spokesperson said.
With these in place, “motorists who stop on these markings during the specified hours can be issued with a Penalty Charge Notice”, they warned.
PCNs in the county are charged at either £70 or £50 within 28 days, or half that if paid within 14 days.
The current yellow zigzag markings already discourage motorists from stopping outside schools, helping to keep entrances clear and improve visibility.
But the proposed changes will enable the council to take action “against motorists who disregard these restrictions, supporting safer journeys to and from school”, its spokesperson said.
Its 88-page proposal, which provides little by way of explanation, lists the schools where the enforcement powers are due to be brought in at Almeley Primary School, Ashperton Primary School, St Michael’s CE School in Bodenham, Bosbury CE Primary School, Brampton Abbotts CE Primary School, Bredenbury Primary School, Brockhampton County Primary School, St Peter’s Primary School in Bromyard, Queen Elizabeth High School in Bromyard, Burghill Community Academy, Burley Gate CE Primary School, Canon Pyon CE Primary School, Clehonger Primary School, The Downs School in Colwall Stone, St Mary’s CE Primary School in Credenhill, St Mary’s CE Primary in Dilwyn, St Mary’s CE Primary School in Fownhope, Garway Primary School, Gorsley Goffs Primary School, Marlbrook Primary School in Hereford, Our Lady’s Catholic Primary School in Hereford, St James CE Primary School in Hereford, St Paul’s CE Primary School in Hereford, St Thomas Cantilupe CE Primary School in Hereford, Trinity Primary School in Hereford, Bishop of Hereford’s Bluecoat School in Hereford, St Francis Xavier’s RC Primary School in Hereford, Barrs Court School in Hereford, Ivington CE Primary School, Kingsland CE Primary School, Kingstone & Thruxton Primary School, Kington Primary School, Lady Hawkins School in Kington, Lea CE Primary School, Leintwardine CE Primary School, Leominster Primary School, Earl Mortimer College in Leominster, Little Dewchurch CE Primary School, Longtown Community Primary School, Lugwardine Primary School, St Mary’s RC High School in Lugwardine, Madley Primary School, Marden Primary School, Mordiford CE Primary School, Much Marcle CE Primary School, Orleton CE Primary School, Pembridge CE Primary School, Peterchurch Primary School, Ashfield Park Primary School in Ross-on-Wye, St Josephs RC Primary School in Ross-on-Wye, Shobdon Primary School, Staunton-on-Wye Endowed Primary School, Stoke Prior Primary School, Stretton Sugwas Academy, Sutton Primary Academy, Wellington Primary School, Weobley Primary and High Schools, Weston-under-Penyard CE Primary School, Whitchurch Primary School, Wigmore High School and Withington Primary School
