Bereaved military family members have just over one week left to apply for free train travel during Remembrance Weekend (7 to 8 November 2026), helping them attend services and events to honour and remember loved ones who died while serving in the Armed Forces.

For the first time, one next of kin of a service person who died while serving will be eligible for free travel on National Rail services to attend Remembrance Weekend events.

This initiative has been welcomed by the Worcestershire Armed Forces Covenant Partnership.

Chair of Worcestershire’s Armed Forces Covenant Partnership, Councillor Dan Boatright-Greene, said: “The cost of travel should never be a barrier to remember loved ones who have given so much for our country. This is a welcome addition to the programme, and it will give hundreds of bereaved military family members the opportunity to travel by rail free of charge during Remembrance Weekend. The deadline is fast approaching so if you, or someone you know, can benefit from this opportunity, please do apply before the deadline.”

Eligible family members have until 12:00 noon on 16 October to apply for a free ticket through the Defence Medical Welfare Service by following the instructions in this link: Remembrance Weekend Rail Travel for Bereaved Families
