South Shropshire MP Philip Dunne expressed his concern that the major water pipe burst has led to loss of water to residents in Broseley and Much Wenlock and some surrounding areas, as well as for thousands of residents in Telford.

Mr Dunne said he been in touch with local councillors and the Chief Executive of Severn Trent to establish the extent of the problem in South Shropshire, and to urge that steps are taken to resolve the issue as quickly as possible.

Four schools in the Ludlow Constituency were closed yesterday.

Mr Dunne said: "This is obviously a very troubling incident for local residents, with homes, schools and businesses affected. I have been in contact with local Shropshire Councillors in Much Wenlock and Broseley to establish the extent of the problem, and to do what I can to ensure local people are being supported.
I have also contacted the Chief Executive of Severn Trent to press that all steps are taken to resolve this issue as quickly as possible. For now, water collection points have been set up in Much Wenlock and Broseley, where residents can access bottled water."
