South Shropshire MP Philip Dunne is encouraging local entries to the Countryside Alliance Awards, also known as the Rural Oscars.

The awards, now in their 13th year, celebrate the skills and produce, tradition, enterprise and people who go the extra mile for rural communities. The awards honour four categories of rural life; local food/drink, village shop/post office, rural enterprise, butcher, and new to 2017 a pub category, enabling people to celebrate their favourite rural local.

Mr Dunne said: “The Ludlow Constituency has form in the Rural Oscars, with Ludlow Food Centre taking the Midlands joint champion prize in best food/drink category last year, and the Smithy Shop in Wistanstow a previous regional finalist. So I am sure with the excellent food and drink producers, businesses, shops, and butchers in South Shropshire, we can see similar success this year – or perhaps go even further! The pub category, new to 2017, also offers a great opportunity to nominate one of our brilliant locals in South Shropshire.

I encourage as many people as possible to put forward nominations before the deadline of 13th November, to give their favourite rural enterprise the chance for national recognition.”

Following the nomination stage, regional champions will be announced in March 2018, who then advance to the national final, which will be held in April 2018 at the House of Lords.
