Herefordshire Council contractors have taken away benches in Hereford city centre in a bid to discourage people from congregating in public areas.
The council says benches will be stored securily and returned to their original location once the lockdown is eased.
“Herefordshire Council has been working closely with the local police to encourage people to use public areas close to home for their daily exercise and dissuade them from congregating,” a council spokesperson said.
“With this aim, it has unfortunately been necessary to restrict the use of some public seating in Hereford High Town.
“This includes the temporary removal of benches within Cathedral Close.
“The memorial benches will be stored securely until a time is agreed for them to be returned to their original locations.”
