A man has been jailed for life after stabbing his stepfather and the family dog to death in a "brutal, sustained and frenzied" attack.
Derby Crown Court heard Logan Procter was 19 when he used two knives to murder Christopher Owen, 57, and their Jack Russell, Poppy in October last year in Shirebrook, Derbyshire.
The defendant, now 20, pleaded guilty to murder and was sentenced on Friday to a minimum term of 20 years and 10 months.
Prosecutor Maryam Syed KC said Procter, who had created a series of "kill lists" had carried out the attacks for the "thrill".
The court heard he had several knives and Samurai swords at the family home and said he "wanted to end so many lives".
Mr Owen suffered more than 70 wounds during the attack, while there were 15 stab injuries on the family dog.
During sentencing, Judge Shaun Smith KC told Procter: "The killing of your stepfather and family dog was brutal, sustained and frenzied.
"No one foresaw the tragedy that was to unfold in terrifying events at your home."
Procter compiled 'kill lists'
The prosecution told the court that Procter's mobile phones revealed he had "compiled lists of various methods of killing and... what the prosecution say are kill lists, with various names".
One list included 'Chris', referring to Mr Owen, as well as 'Mum', another labelled for "work" named six people while one list for "college" had 14 names.

Ms Syed told the court that Procter called 999 with "extreme calmness" after the murder and said he "wanted to end so many lives".
During the call, he described his stepfather, who had been in his life for 10 years, as "stronger than I thought".
'I have lost everything'
In a victim impact statement, Procter's mother, and the partner of Mr Owen, Alison Owen, wrote that her son had "never shown any form of anger or violence in all his life".
"I have lost everything I hold dear to me - a precious partner Chris and my precious boy Logan," she added.
Defending, Clive Stockwell KC said Procter had been bullied and was vulnerable because of his mental health problems.
Mr Stockwell added there had been "no cross words" nor "hostile behaviour" from Mr Owen, who was a "completely innocent victim".
Detective Inspector Kane Martin, who led the investigation, said: "While Logan Procter has taken responsibility for his murder, he has never given a reason for why he carried out the attack.
"What is clear is that Procter planned to kill Mr Owen and he did so in the most brutal of manners," he added in a statement.
