Large fire breaks out at warehouse in southeast London

Around 150 firefighters tackled a large fire that broke out at an industrial estate in southeast London.

Twenty-five fire engines attended the scene in Maypole Crescent in Erith after the London Fire Brigade was called on Friday night.

A single-storey warehouse in a scrap yard was alight, the fire service said, along with three diggers and numerous vehicles.

Local residents were advised to keep their windows and doors shut where possible due to the smoke.

The fire service said two 32-metre turntable ladders were deployed to deliver water from above, while a fire boat was also mobilised.

The cause of the fire, which was brought under control just before 7am, is not known yet.
