People can now have their say on plans which will set out where almost 13,000 homes could be built in the Stroud district over the next twenty years.

Stroud District Council is currently in the process of reviewing its local plan which, when adopted, will set out where development will take place in the area up to 2040.

The local plan will include the policies used to assess whether planning applications are approved.

The public have until July 7, 2021 to make comments on the plan before it is submitted for examination.

District council environment committee chairman Chloe Turner said: “The Local Plan maps out where homes and businesses will go, up to the year 2040 and Stroud District Council has to meet a current target of almost 13,000 homes by then.

“If the council does not allocate space for developers to build, the Government could direct where development takes place, so it’s really important that as many people as possible have their say.”

Due to the Coronavirus pandemic, there are some changes to the way members of the public can get involved.

This is in line with amended national planning legislation. This means all documentation will only be published online.

After the consultation period, the plan will be submitted for examination by an independent planning inspector, appointed by the Secretary of State.

If you have any questions about this consultation stage or need help filling in the representation form or accessing the documents, please contact the Planning Strategy Team at local.plan@stroud.gov.uk or call 01453 754143.

The pre-submission draft local plan was approved for publication by full council on April 29.
