Two council officers who have been acting up have been appointed to permanent posts with salaries of up to £63,000 and £85,000 a year.
Nick Keyse, who had been the council’s acting head of landlord services, has been made the permanent head of service and Jan Furtek has been named chief internal auditor having held the role on an acting basis.
Mr Keyse was appointed by the council’s appointments committee earlier in August, which is held in a confidential session. A change to the council’s constitution, earlier this year, has required chief officer posts, outside of the senior leadership team, to be made by the committee of five councillors and a senior officer.
The head of landlord services role is graded as a chief officer band B position with a salary of £81,092 to £85,044 a year.
Senior leadership team positions, such as the two director roles the council filled in July, are made by the full council in a confidential meeting.
Mr Furtek was appointed following an interview with a panel of councillors and officers and his position is below the chief officer grade and carries a salary in line with the National Joint Council for local government main pay scale on band M which is between £58,970 and £63,827 a year.
Monmouthshire County Council’s chief executive congratulated both members of staff on their appointments and said: “We are so lucky to have you both. The deal is clear – you will be outstanding and we will coach you forward to your next position. Hold my feet to the fire on that.”
The council is shortly expected to confirm the appointment of a head of planning.
