Shropshire Council is preparing a bid for up to £20 million from a new UK-wide innovation fund aimed at boosting regional economic growth.

Cabinet has approved plans to form Local Innovation Partnerships, joining councils, businesses and universities in a Marches to Midlands proposal.

The bid would focus on green energy and advanced manufacturing, including agri-tech, with leaders saying it could attract investment and create skilled jobs.

Rob Wilson, Shropshire Council Cabinet member for economic growth, said:“This strategic approach will not only boost local jobs and skills but also ensure Shropshire remains competitive in the transition to a low-carbon economy. By pooling expertise and resources, the partnerships will accelerate progress on renewable energy projects and advanced manufacturing capabilities, helping the county secure long-term prosperity.”
