Parking enforcement at a Hereford car park is to be reintroduced – due to shoppers using it without permission.
Herefordshire Council has signed a 12-month contract with Corporate Services Parking Management (CSPM), a private firm based in the city, to provide parking enforcement at Wall Street car park beside the A438 Newmarket Street.
Currently, annual licences are issued for individual allocated spaces in the privately owned car park.
But the move has been prompted by “recent complaints that parking is being used by shoppers”, the council’s decision said.
A previous contract with CSPM to enforce parking regulations at the car park expired in 2018.
The firm will now have access to the registration plates of those that are licensed to park, while any vacant spaces “will be marketed to increase income”, the council said.
The renewed, short-term contract is being used “as an interim measure to allow time for permanent options to be explored”, it added.
