The M50 in Worcestershire/Gloucestershire is closed westbound between J1 (near Tewkesbury) and J2 (near Ledbury), due to a serious collision involving 2 vehicles.
The incident has occurred near the village of Pendock.
Initially, all emergency services attended the incident which occurred shortly after midnight.
Traffic was also held on the eastbound carriageway to enable Air Ambulance to land and attend the scene.
West Mercia Police remain on scene along with National Highways Traffic Officers.
Police have confirmed that collision investigation work will be carried out.
Therefore, the closure is expected to be in place for a considerable time today.
